Matthew Wilks was born in Canton, Ohio and raised in Wadsworth,Ohio.
A graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Matthew made his stage debut at the age of seven in the original musical Gods Pure Lamb.
He created the role of The Witch in the original stage play Kids For Lunch, The Story of Hansel and Gretel Continued, which made its debut at The Civic Theatre in downtown Akron. He returned to the Civic the following year in the original stage play Five Tier, playing the role of Phillip Bassey.
He appeared in the Neil Simon comedy Gods Favorite, at the Western Reserve Playhouse for which he was awarded a Merit in Acting Award from the Ohio Community Theatre Association.
While based in Ohio, Matthew has been privileged to travel to a number of exciting theatres and schools around the country with The Illusion Factory, Akron’s only professional touring theatre company for children. In his time with the company Matthew has played a variety of roles. He most notably played, the Big Bad Wolf and an Ugly Stepsister in the Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella mash-up comedy play Cinderhood, by noted playwright Dennis McCarthy.
While thriving in theatre work Matthew also spends time in film. Most notably he can be spotted in in the movies Draft Day alongside Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner and in Little Evil with Adam Scott.
Matthew is also an accomplished acting teacher and director, having taught or directed showcases at several local theatres including; Weathervane Playhouse, The Illusion Factory, Cassidy Theatre, Brecksville Theatre on The Square, Buckeye Childrens Theatre, and The Academy for Dramatic Arts.
